Brandelyn Anderson
The JoyBuilder

Founder & Chief Joy Officer

UC Berkeley grad. Nonprofit leader and strategist. Social architect. The Joy Builder.

When institutions closed their doors to diverse audiences, I built better ones.
The JoyBuilder began as an act of resistance and evolved into a cultural movement,  designing spaces where Black stories, Black joy, and Black excellence are celebrated without compromise.

My Story

After launching bestselling author events inside the Kennedy Center and witnessing the limitations placed on culturally authentic programming,

I decided to bet on myself.

My first independent event with Alencia Johnson sold out quickly.
Then Building the Bond, a signature event in support of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, united over 30 remarkable women of color who are leaders in their industries.

The table hosts included: Stacey Abrams, Abby Phillip, Joy Ann Reid, Susan L. Taylor, and many more women who shared their expertise and time with the over 350 guests in the room.

My name, Brandelyn, means “refreshing spirit.”
That is the heart of The JoyBuilder: spaces where people leave feeling lighter, seen, and renewed.
